Camp Chosôn is run entirely by parent volunteers and therefore, all families are expected to donate some time during camp week at any one of a number of activities that support our camp programming (see Registration Materials). Camp is also dependent on volunteer support not only during camp week, but throughout the year through "key volunteer positions". Think seriously about donating your talents to camp by becoming one of our key volunteers that coordinate a part of the whole experience. Some of these jobs need to be done year-round while others can be done shortly before or at camp. Find out how you can help at this link . If you have the ability to donate your time and talents, please contact our Board President or our Volunteer Coordinator .
In addition, we need your help spreading the word about our camp. Please see this special message from our Board President.
Camp Chosôn has a general listserv for all our families interested in receiving the most current camp information via e-mail. To sign up, send an e-mail to our listserv at the following link: Camp Chosôn mailing list .
Please note: The listserv does not replace other forms of camp communication, but serves to augment communication methods already in place. Notifications regarding registration materials and reminders of important dates related to camp will be sent out on the listserv in a timely fashion, and all information distributed by the Board will still be posted on this website should you prefer to not sign-up.
If you wish to attend our next Board meeting, please contact Kandi Zethren, our Board Secretary for location and directions.
If you, your business, or your employer mgiht be interested in becoming one of our official sponsors, please see our Contact Information Page for information on how to help support our camp and be listed on this website (tasteful advertising is available on this site for our Benefactors).... Thanks!
Camp Chosôn is an annual, week-long, Korean culture camp primarily serving Minnesota and Wisconsin, specifically designed for Korean-American children, their families and friends. Camp Chosôn convenes at a location every year, and is typically held close to the Fourth of July week. Our venue is currently Camp Lakamaga, a Girl Scout Camp, near Forest Lake, Minnesota.
We have developed a strong working relationship with the Girl Scouts that is mutually beneficial to both of our organizations.
Our history dates back to 1993, when a core group of parents looking for a way to expose their children to Korean culture found such opportunities to be in short supply for their families. These visionary parents started what is now a Korean culture camp that has serviced more than 1000 children, helping them to find their roots in Korean traditions while blending in their American upbringing. Camp Chosôn is a place where the physical being is not in conflict with the inner spirit. Social interactions, culture classes and group physical activities build self-esteem and promote a sense of belonging... to family, to friends, to humanity.
Our campers establish many new friendships based on self-esteem and mutual respect, while taking their family relationships to a new level of awareness; one that strengthens the family bonds as peace for the inner spirit becomes possible. Siblings of any ancestral origin are encouraged to attend and share the enriching experience. Special programs are offered for parents during the day making it truly an experience for the whole family.
If you're looking for a Korean culture camp to attend, you can't find one better than ours. We invite you to browse through our pages and see what we're all about. Then come and discover with us the richness of Korean culture, dive into the depths of enlightenment, share the peace of discovery and experience the love of family.
