2024 Camp Choson Resident Camp Counselor

We thank you for your interest in joining the Camp Choson resident camp counselor team. Res camp focuses on identity and the Korean-American experience through providing a 6-day overnight experience for our middle school and high school-aged campers. Our goal is to create a safe environment to connect with our Korean heritage, to build lifelong friendships, and above all, to have fun.

Counselor Requirements: The qualified counselor is a positive role model of Korean heritage who can supervise and build positive relationships with campers. All res camp counselors must be at least 21 years old. All counselors need to attend training from Saturday, June 29th to Sunday, June 30th. There can be no exceptions. All counselors need to agree to a background check in order to participate at Camp Choson.

Group Assignments & Expectations: The res camp counselor is a stipend position. Food and lodging are also provided at camp. Res camper groups range from 7th grade - 12th grade. The role of res camp counselor includes the following responsibilities:

1. Maintain absolute safety and supervision of your campers at all time.

2. Develop a nurturing relationship with each and every camper in your group.

3. Help facilitate growth of campers’ self esteem, teamwork skills, and cultural identity exploration.

4. Act as a role model for appropriate sharing and decision-making.

5. Respect the campers’ individuality by NEVER criticizing, shaming, or imposing your own values.

6. Work with other res camp counselors to lead and facilitate camp activities.

Time Commitment: We require all res camp counselors to commit to 7 days of camp from: Saturday, June 29th 9AM until Friday, July 5th 4PM. This time frame includes counselor training and setup, res camp, and cleanup.
